Monique Evans, LCSW

moniqueevanstherapy@gmail.com

Hello, I am Monique. I am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist based in New York City. I am multi-state licensed to practice in: New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. I am dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and rewrite their stories. My work is rooted in compassion, insight, and evidence-based practices, and my goal is to provide a space where you feel seen, understood, and empowered to make meaningful change.

I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from NYU Silver School of Social Work and hold specialized postgraduate training in family therapy from the Ackerman Institute for the Family. My clinical background provides a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, family systems, and relational work, which I bring into every session with intention and care.

My Approach to Therapy

Therapy is a collaborative journey. I tailor my approach to meet your unique needs, combining trauma-informed, evidence-based techniques with deep listening and reflection. I integrate relational, family, and individual frameworks to help clients explore patterns, understand themselves, and develop practical skills for growth.

I place particular emphasis on identity, culture, and lived experience, bringing awareness of race, social justice, and cultural context into every session. As an African-American woman, I understand how culture, family, and social systems shape daily life, and I strive to create a space where your experiences are honored and your voice is central to your healing.

Who Do I Work With?

I work with individuals, couples, and families who are ready to engage in meaningful change. My clients often seek support for challenges including but not limited to:

Couples:

What You Can Expect

When you work with me, you can expect a safe, collaborative, and empowering environment. Together, we explore your challenges, uncover patterns, and build strategies that are actionable and sustainable. My work is rooted in the belief that every client is the expert in their own life, and my role is to guide, reflect, and support you as you reclaim your story and step into your full potential.

Whether we are addressing individual concerns, repairing relational dynamics, or navigating family systems, the ultimate goal is the same: to help you feel grounded, empowered, and equipped to thrive in your life and relationships.

Why Work With Me?

I am deeply passionate about helping clients undo toxic patterns, especially in mother-daughter, family, and relational dynamics. My approach is direct, compassionate, and culturally attuned. I want every client to leave a session feeling seen, heard, and capable of change, with practical tools to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and clarity.

Your healing is an active process, and my goal is to make sure you feel supported every step of the way. Therapy with me isn’t just about addressing symptoms; it’s about cultivating resilience, insight, and lasting transformation.

Undoing Toxic Blog

I also share insights, reflections, and lessons on relationships, healing, and self-growth on my blog. Each month, I focus on themes that support you in understanding patterns, building awareness, and nurturing Black excellence in everyday life.

"Beneath every behavior there is a feeling. And beneath each feeling is a need. And when we meet that need...we begin to deal with the cause, not the symptom. You can do it when you're ready."
